Purpose:To explore the influence of different position injury on recurrent laryngeal nerve(RLN) through observing changes in the histomorphometry and structure of the posterior cricoarytenoid(PCA) muscle. Methods:8 mongrel dogs were divided into 4 groups:2 dogs without injury were kept as normal control group, the other 6 dogs were divided into 3 groups(each n=2) with the left RLN clamping at different position:at larynx entrance in group A,at fourth trachea ring in group B, and at aortic arch in group C.All the dog’s PCA muscles were take out for HE,Ach E,and SDH staining after 8 weeks. The pathological morphology changes of the PCA were observed. Results:The number of red muscles and white muscles and the ratio of red muscles to white muscles showed a decreasing trend from control group to group C,but the difference was no significant between diff erent groups. The number of motor end plate tended to decrease from control group to group C,and the difference was statistically significant. Conclusions:The further the injury position was to the target organ, the worst the recovery of RLN and PCA muscles function was.
