[Objective]To explore the characteristics and the correlative factors of traditional Chinese medicine(TCM) syndrome in diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN).[Methods]Medical records of 695 DPN patients were collected. The diagnostic data of traditional Chinese medicine, related signs and laboratory examination data of all these patients were completely recorded.695 casebooks were arranged and classified by unified criteria of traditional Chinese medicine as syndromes of Qi-deficiency,Yin-deficiency, Yang-deficiency, blood-stasis, phlegm-dampness, Q i-depression.[Results]1.Frequency of the first three single syndromes were Blood-stasis syndrome (78.71%), Yin-deficiency syndrome (63.31%), Qi-def iciency syndrome (44.03%).2. The average BMI of 695 DPN patients was higher than 25kg/m2, and phlegm-dampness syndrome had a significant correlation with BMI (r=0.181, P<0.01).3. The ratio of blood-stasis syndrome in the elder-age group was significantly higher than the younger-age group (P<0.01), and blood-stasis Syndrome was significantly correlated with age (r=0.085, P<0.05).4. The Blood-stasis syndrome and Yin-deficiency syndrome had a high proportion in different groups.5. Qi-deficiency and FBG were significantly correlated with each other (r=0.117, P<0.01).And Yin-deficiency syndrome had a significant correlation with HbAlc (r=0.105, P<0.05).6.The abnormality of EMG had a significant correlation with Yang-deficiency (r=0.084,P<0.05). There was no significant difference in SSR abnormality rate of different syndromes.7. Yang-deficiency syndrome and blood-stasis syndrome had a significant correlation (r=0.100, P<0.01)8. On the side of deficiency syndrome, there was a significant difference in constituent ratio of TCM syndrome patterns.[Conclusions]Yin-deficiency was the basic TCM pathogenesis of DPN. As later stage of DPN, deficiency of both Yin and Yang began to play an important role. The vital TCM pathogenesis in DPN was blood stasis. With the prolongation of the course and the growth of the age,the blood-stasis syndrome was more common. Yang-deficiency syndrome and blood-stasis syndrome had a significant correlation. The abnormality of EMG had a significant correlation with Yang-deficiency.Yin-deficiency syndrome had a significant correlation with HbAlc. Qi-deficiency and FBG were significantly correlated with each other. All these provided a basis for the treatment of DPN.
