Hypertension is a systemic disease, which is characterized by an elevated blood pressure (systolic and/or diastolic blood pressure) as well as functional or organic disorders of heart, brain, kidney etc. As the similar as hypertension, atherosclerosis, a senile disease, could cause many complications. Furthermore, hypertension and atherosclerosis can influence and reinforce each other. With the improvement of Chinese living standard, lifestyle has changed a lot, which is leading to the growing of the incidence of hypertension and atherosclerosis. So researches on hypertension and atherosclerosis are more and more. These studies have demonstrated that hypertension and atherosclerosis are related closely. Because of the growing concern about health and the expectation of discovering atherosclerosis earlier, a new kind of examination was created. This new examination is measuring the pulse wave velocity (PWV) and ankle-brachial index (ABI) to diagnose arteriosclerosis earlier.Measuring PWV and ABI is a simple, convenient, and exact method to diagnose extreme arteries sclerosis. In this study, we would compare and analyze the relationship between hypertension and the value of PWV and ABI, to get the relationship between hypertension and extremity atherosclerosis. The essay mainly includes the following four aspects:1. Objective:By collecting and studying the relationship between hypertension and the value of baPWV and AB, we would explore the relationship between hypertension and TCM Syndromes and extremity atherosclerosis, and get the conclusion to provide theoretical basis for clinical diagnosis and treatment.2. Methods:Using the retrospective clinical study 904 cases of hypertension and non-hypertension in Guang’anmen Hospital from 2012 to 2014 was involved in this study. This research was mainly contented on the patients’general situation, hypertension situation, TCM syndrome types, to be or not to be with other diseases, and part of serologic marker. Used Excel 2003 to establish a database, and then used SPSS 19.0 for statistical analysis.3. Results3.1 General informationAmong the 904 cases,645 patients were diagnosed hypertension as the observation group and the other 259 cases of non-hypertensive patients as the control group. Among the observation group,302 were male and female were 343, aged 65.99 ± 12.78 year-old. The other group had 99 male and 160 female, aged 58.92 ± 13.25 year-old. Among the observation group,37 cases were simple hypertension and 608 cases were with 1 or 2 kinds of other diseases. The two groups had four TCM syndrome types and the differences were similar (P>0.05).3.2 BaPWV and ABI between hypertensive and non-hypertensive patients(1) Patients’with hypertension baPWV and the abnormal detection rate of baPWV and ABI were higher than patients’ without hypertension (P<.05). The value and abnormal rate showed a gradual increasing trend with high blood pressure classification, cardiovascular risk and increased duration (P<0.05).(2) The patients in hypertension group had the significantly higher baPWV, abnormal detection rate of baPWV and ABI than in non-hypertensive group by different gender and age (P<0.05).(3) When hyperlipidemia, hyperuricemia, diabetes, coronary heart disease and cerebral infarction were associated with hypertension, baPWV and its abnormal detection rate, and abnormal detection rate of ABI were significantly higher (P<0.05).(4) From syndrome part, the patients with phlegm-dampness syndrome and yin yang concurrent deficiency syndrome had the higher baPWV and abnormal detection rate of baPWV and ABI than patients with overabundant liver-fire syndrome and yin deficiency yang hyperactivity syndrome.(5) Multiple regression analysis showed that after adjusting for other possible factors, high blood pressure and baPWV showed a significant positive correlation.4. Conclusion:Hypertension and atherosclerosis had a significantly positively relationship. Hypertension was one of the most important reasons causing and aggravating atherosclerosis. Phlegm-dampness syndrome and yin yang concurrent deficiency syndrome were more closely to atherosclerosis. In the clinical practice, controlling arteriosclerosis should be intervened running through the treatment of hypertension from beginning to ending. Especially important be must early detection and early intervention.
