Studies On Resources And Design Of Fall-Color Trees In The City Of Hangzhou

The significance of landscape consisting and characterizing of seasonal appearance of plants has drawn increasingly more attention in urban garden settings. Landscaping art displays plants in four dimensions, time being the fourth important one. The sight of landscape makes seasonal changes by the turns of four seasons, the most spectacular sight taking on in fall, which sufficiently exhibits the beauty of season appearance of plant of landscape based on the employment of the fall-color tree resources. According to current researches on the fall appearance of plant view of landscape, this thesis has focused on a survey on resources and configuration of the fall-color trees in the Hangzhou city, therefore made an investigation on general principles of resource application and landscape design of the fall-color trees, as well as some case studies.With regard to the fall-color tree resources, the thesis has firstly analyzed in diagram the color-varying time and period of ordinary fall-color tree in Hangzhou after several fieldwork during their best appreciating phases-from the middle ten days of November to the first ten days of December;secondly summarized plenty of excellent the fall-color trees, and suggested how to protect and exploit them;thirdly instructed AHP model to evaluate the fall-color trees, designed corresponding criteria for endowing certain values to respective indices, made an integrated evaluation on 23 familiar fall-color trees, and singled out the best 6 fall-color trees: Acer palmatum, Acer palmatum'Atropurpureum', Liquidambar formosana, Platanus acerifolia, Metasequoia glyptostroboides, Ginkgo biloba, they making up of important plant materials for fall landscape in Hangzhou, as well as other four also much more highly appreciated trees in fall, Acer buergerianum, Sapindus mukurossi, Taxodium distichum and Taxodium ascendens.Concerning configuration of fall-color trees, the thesis has categorized plant materials of which fall landscape is composed, and positioned 28 spots to be investigated and measured—8 characterized of Acer palmatum and Acer palmatum'Atropurpureum , 3 of gymnosperm such as Metaseqiioia glyptostroboides and Taxodium ascendens, 3 of Platanus acerifolia, 6 of Sapindus mukurossi, 2 of Sapium sebiferum, 2 of Ginkgo biloba, 2 of Diospyros kaki, 1 of Liriodendron chinense, and 1 of Liquidambar formosana;then analyzed distinct view effects because of different configuration of fall-color trees along with background trees and ground cover etc., and made some proposals for application on several occasions, for instance, beside water in landscape gardens, two sides of garden paths, and around lawns;afterwards, quantifiably analyzed some plant community made of fall-color trees, including abundance and relatively abundance, dominance and relative dominance of fall-color trees in plant community.
