Multiple cropping system is a special characteristic of agriculture in China, which has crucial function on feeding 22% people of the whole word by 10% cultivate field of the whole world. Multiple Cropping Index(MCI) is considered as an important factor in agri-ecosystem related to land use system and agricultural production for regions where it is possible to sow the land more than once a year. It is traditional calculated with statistical data of local canton, difficult to use in agro-climatic and crop growth models. However, remote sensing technology has been widely applied in agriculture and crop inspecting, the development of remote sensing data precision and analysis method provides such possibility to obtain actual MCI information efficiently and correctly. This paper has discussed and redefined the connotation of MCI in China, presents a method for estimating actual MCI with SPOT/VGT multi-temporal NDVI data after smoothing by Savitzky-Golay filter: Cross Goodness of Fit Test(CGFT). The result shows a high precision of MCI and accord with the rule of cultivate system change from Northern to Southern in China. The conclusions as follows:(1)The new definition of MCI in this paper is concise from traditional connotation, which is easy to operate and has a clear significance;(2)the method based on Savitzky-Golay filter could effectively smooth the noise existing in the NDVI time-series caused primarily by cloud contamination and atmospheric variability, which is faster and more effective in obtaining a high-quality NDVI time-series; (3)CGFT based on hyper-spectral remote sensing data analysis methods is available for calculating multiple cropping index of crop in China using smooth NDVI time-series.
