Rice blast caused by magnaporthe grisea is one of the most important fungal pathogen in rice.Analyse on magnaporthe grisea distribution of mating type gene and its fertility is very useful forresearch on magnaporthe grisea pathogenity genetic background. 408 Magnaporthe grisea isolates collected from 8 counties of Yunnan province were used for fertility assays. Mating type gene of 234 isolates is MAT1-1 and other 174 isolates is M4T1-2.Three standard strains, KA3(MAT1-1),KA9(MAT1-2) and Z46(MATl-2) ,were utilized in the fertility test. 40.2% MAT1-1 isolates can produce perithecia when they were cultured with KA9(MAT1-2) and 27.8% MAT1-1 isolates can produce perithecia when they were cultured with 2A6(MAT1-2). 28.2% MAT1-2 isolates can form perithecia when they were cultured with KA3(MAT1-1). In the fertility test of MAT1-1 isolates KA9 has better fertility than Z46.31 Magnaporthe grisea isolates collected from 8 counties of Yunnan province and 4 derived from the lab were also used for fertility assays. Result suggest that self-cross of those 35 rice blast isolates can not produce perithecia. When they were cultured with KA3(MAT1-1), KA9(MAT1-2) or Z46(MAT1-2),the numbers of strains which can form perithecia are 22,6 and 4, respectively. Two isolates ( BO1218 BO1199)can form perithecia when they were cultured with KA3(MAT1-1) and Z46(MAT1-2).Three isolates ( BO1218 BO1199 and BO1535) can form perithecia when they were cultured with KA3(MAT1-1) and KA9(MAT1-2) .These five isolates have MAT1-1 and MAT1-2 which are functional. Two mating type genes of J62 were identified with genomic Southern Blot.
