In the research on Terrain-Machine systems,soil bin tester is one of the most important facilities. It can be used for many fields, such as studying the interacting problem of tillage tool-soil, investigating soil mechanical properties, analyzing the state of movement and life for the walking-devices and working-components, etc. Therefore the soil bin tester is very essential for exploring new principia, devising new tillage tools, reducing energy consumption and improving working quality. The soil bin tester is an indefinite standard equipment typed JGJKY-01, made in department of automobile and tractor engineering, JiLin University of Technology. In 2000, a lot of mends have been developed on soil bin tester by the key laboratory for terrain-machine bionics engineering (JiLin University), ministry of education. However, many problems still exist because of the limits of time and outlay. For example, the reliability and precision of former instruments were not enough. Test operation was complicated, method and form of control were single, automatic level was lower, and repetition of experimental data was not good. Thereby, work efficiency and application range of soil bin tester were limited to some extent for the sake of device.Based on examining the former computer automatic control system for soil bin tester and analyzing the electric control system, the design principals and the structure of the hardware and software for the presented test system were put forward. The mutual interface between human and machine conforms to the Windows style. The interface of the developed software is friendly and easy to manipulate. The software was programmed with the developing kit Visual Basic 6.0 and the OOP technique. Meanwhile, function testing and demonstration test to developed control system were carried out.The soil bin tester driving control system is composed of an industrial computer, an infrared remote controller and two direct-current motors. The industrial computer collects and processes signals through the data collect and control board and launches commands to the direct-current motors. The counter/timer card is to count the tester speed and displacement by pulse signal of photoelectric pulse coder. The infrared remote controller is a cheap, small, simple, reliable and effective product. It can effectively resist electromagnetic interference and ensure safe operation of the system. Using remote technology can reduce manipulative difficulty during soil bin testing and realize single operation of the whole system. Practical application many times demonstrated that the infrared remote controller can work reliably and improve work efficiency considerably.Besides control the movement of tester, the soil bin tester driving control system can adjust the tester speed by rule and line, which was impossible to former test equipments. The range can be adjusted from -1.45m/s to 1.45m/s, the positive and minus sign denotes the direction of tester running. In addition, for the convenience of operation, the infrared remote control function was developed to enhance the flexibility of the developed control system, which can be inputted six speed parameters as test requirement. Users can do the experiment and observe the working state of tillage-tools near at the same time by means of the infrared remote control function. Each control parameter for soil bin tester driving control system can be digitally inputted. In the experimental process, the system is not only collecting data, dynamically displaying data and storing data to database real-time, but also convenient for the operation of database, such as querying data , amending data and deleting data, etc. The system also shows soil bin tester speed experimental curves dynamically and real-time running status, and moreover, adds control function to tester running displacement and running time for ensuring safe of equipments and experimentalists.
