Research indicated that Quercetin could inhibit elongation and promote diameter and fresh weight increasing of the rice seedlings, and its SOD, CAT and POD activity was different from the control. Flavonoid including Quercetin,keampferol,iso-Rhamnetin, and their derivatives,more than 40 kinds, could scavenge free radical, protect or repair cell from damage and aberrance of chromosome.In this paper,the research results showed that Quercetin in different concentration could inhibit elongation of mung bean seedling in dark, but strengthen the seedling by promoting its diameter and fresh weight. The effect was more evident with the higher content of Quercetin used. The activity of SOD decreased, but the activity of CAT increased, while the activity of POD decreased with lower content of Quercetin treatment,increased in higher content of Quercetin treatment.Under lighting, the Quercetin treatment increased mung bean seedling's height, the fresh weight and the fresh weight per centimeter of the mung bean seedling.In the study of Quercetin's radiation resistance , we also discovered that after radiation,the Photosynthesis rate of mung bean seedling treated by Quercetion was higher than the control, the conductivity increased but recovered to the level of the control after 24 hours. Without Quercetin treatment, the conductivity of mung bean seedlings treated by radiation was keeping higher level, and the change of SOD activity represented low-high-low in lower content of Quercetin treatment,and increased in higher content of Quercetin treatment. The activity of POD and CAT were related to the length of time and the dose of radiation, increasing in the first day and the second day, decreasing in the third day, but it was still higher than the control in higher content.Study result infirmed that Quercetin could inhibit mung bean seedling's elongation, promot diameter and fresh weight,and protect mung bean seedling from damage by radiation.
