The extension of hybrid rice has been contributing to food security for such a country that consumed mainly rice. The Northern Huang-Huai Plain is one of the main hybrid rice cultivated areas in China. Recently, the area of hybrid rice cultivated has been expanding constantly while the area of its seed production has not been increasing. The shortage of seed has become the key factor that restrains hybrid rice popularized. The aim of this research is to determine the main factors affecting farmers' adoption behavior of hybrid rice seed production technology based on the data from cross-section investigation sampled in the village of Tongshan County in Jiangsu Province.In order to analysis the main constrains of extension for hybrid seed production technology, PRA and KAP methods were used. The main factors affected fanners' adoption of the technology were determined through Profit Model. The functioning direction and degree were also analyzed.The KAP results showed that 1) the spreading effects of hybrid seed production technology was not significant; 2) there were those fanners who were negative in attitude for seed production, but in actual situation they used the technology by following others and attracted by the benefits, then the technology was adopted by them gradually.Based on above results and research hypnoses, it was showed through Probit Model, whether farmers got technical training and the frequency of their connection with extension organizations were very significant to the technology adoption in the process of spreading the seed production technology. The training and connection with extension organizations were helpful for farmers to understand the knowledge related and to get more information. In addition, the fanners with large piece of rice field or without non-farm income were more likely to adopt the technology. Due to special requirements for suing the technology, its extension was limited in some degree.In order to further expand the extension scale of hybrid rice seed production technology in Northern Huang-Hui Plain, therefore, it was recommended:? Facilitating the institutional innovation for extension of hybrid rice seed production technology, including strengthening the training of extensionists and emphasizing on fanners' participation to select the technology according to their willingness. The extension of hybrid rice seed production technology should be contributed to increase organizational degree of farmers involved;- To strengthen the close combination of the agricultural R&D institution, agricultural extension department and fanner households, and to connect breeding, seed production and extension as well as to integrate producing, supplying and selling as a whole;-To choose those farmer households who are willing to adopting the technology to establish demonstrative bases for hybrid rice seed production, then to guide others through the demonstrative effects.
