Studies on ecophysiological effects of starvation and refeeding on Yellow catfish in the controlled environment indoor. The effect of starvation and subsequent refeeding on growth and its mechanismin of Yellow catfish after food deprivation and refeeding. The starvation and recovery feeding experiment in Yellow catfish(l 1 15g) was carried out at 20 ±1℃. The tested fish were divided into experimental groups, which were deprived food for 0, 5, 10 and 15 days.The result showed:(1)The significant effect on growth of Yellow catfish was observed. Body weight was losing in term of starvation and loss rate increased. The rate of loss weight is 21.06% after starvation 15 days. Contrast with control group, the rate of lost weight is similar with the group of starvation 5 days (P>0.05). But lost rate significantly change in the group of starvation 10 days and 15 days. After being recovery feed, the weight is increasing. The rate of body weight increase is 4.34%, 11.05%, 20.69% and 17.36% in the every control group. The results suggest there is the completely compensatory growth about 5 and 10 days group and partially compensatory growth about 15 days group.After recovery feeding, the specific growth rate and feeding rate of group of starvation 5 days is higher than control group, but the change is not significantly, and conversion efficiency is significantly higher than control group. The SGR and CE of the group of starvation 10 days are significantly higher than control group. The SGRand CE of the group of starvation 15 days are higher than control group. But the change is also not significant (P>0.05). Feeding rate of every starvation group is similar also. Therefore we can know that Yellow catfish get Completely compensatory growth in recovery feeding after starvation less than 5 and 10 days, and get Partially compensatory growth through starvation 15 days.(2) Starvation effects significantly the oxygen consumption rate of Yellow catfish. The oxygen consumption rate is descend along with prolong of starvation time. The oxygen consumption rate of Yellow catfish descends quickly in starvation 2 6 days and descend from 80.78 mg ·kg-1 ·h-1 to 55.30 rng ·kg-1 ·h-1, and the oxygen consumption rate descends slowly in starvation 6-14 days and descends from 53.30 mg ·kg-1 ·h-1 to 43.46 mg ·kg-1h-1. In the course of experiment, the fluctuating Scope of the oxygen consumption rate is small(95.31 114.19 mg ·kg-1 ·h-1.and the divergence is not significance(P>0.05). After recovery feeding, the oxygen consumption increasing gradually. Namely, the group starvation 5 days: the oxygen consumption rate of Yellow catfish increases from 61.89 mg kg-1 ·h-1(recover 2 days) to 111.77 mg ·kg-1 ·h-1recover 14 days). The oxygen consumption rate of the 10 days group increase from 53.30 mg ·g-1 ·h-1recover 2 days) to 108.30 mg ·kg-1 ·h-1recover 14 days). Starvation or recovery feeding make their oxygen consumption rate decrease or increase. The change of the oxygen consumption rate is significant in 0 6 days, and slowed in 6 14 days. The 6 days is insignificant scope. So, 6 days is important to Yellow catfish.(3)The starvation and recovery feeding significantly effects the biochemical composition of Yellow catfish. Starvation decreased muscle lipid contents but increased their ash content. The change of water and protein is not significant. After recovery feeding, the biochemical composition enhance to the level of control group.The protein content of 5d and l0d group is higher significantly than control group. There is no significant difference in amino acids. But starvation and recovery feeding affect fatty acids complicated. Glycogen contents in liver and muscle were rapidly decreased after starvation 10d 15d significantly . Starvation l0d group recovered to the level of control group and the group of starvation 15 days is lower than the control group significantly after recovery feeding.Starvation and refeeding had a significant effect...
