| The rate of pine caterpillars gradually increases in mountain of west Hunan province since 1990s and its harm is becoming more and more serious. According to effective controling calamity of pest, our main goal of research is to comprehend regularities of pine caterpillars, study efficient ways of control and management, analyse interrelation and aggression actions between pine caterpillars and pinus massoniana, confirm the influence factors of pine caterpillars, choose the best bio-pesticide improving ef fection of control, research the most reasonable organization to control pine caterpillars in sustainable and integrated way. The researching conclusion shows that in the mountain of Hunan province, pine caterpillars mostly belong to one generation every year, the arising regulation in the mountain diffence from those in the hill. The best index for control is 9 pests one tree in the first class forest, 26. 5 pests in the second-class forest. Temperature and humidity is a key factor to impair the growth and development of pine caterpillars. At the same time, gps was applied to aeried spraying in mountain areas in 1997 and 1998. the horizontal and vertical in fection of the bio-insecticides made up for the positional error caused by GPS. the mixture of Bt and virus (1:1)had the best control effect among several bio-insecticides in aerial spraying with GPS, and it effectively improved the control effect in the mountain areas. In addition, enacting the way of management, building the systems of organization ensure to control pest well .
