The experiments were performed on greenhouse pepper during 2001-2002 in the watersaving demonstration garden in Jin Yang, ShaanXi Provinc to study the optimum irrigation index for greenhouse pepper at the seedling, bloom and fruit-bearing, fruit-growing stages. On the basis of previous research of soil water irrigation maximum(80%,85%, 90%, 95%, 100% at the seedling stage; 70%,80%,90%,100%at the fruitbearing stage; and 85%, 90%, 95%, 100% at the fruit-growing stage, respectively. The following items were measured: plant height, stem diameter, leafarea, dry weight of root, stem, leaf and the total, net photosynthesis rate, transpiration rate, root activity,, water effective utilization ratio , bloom and fruit-bearing ratio, total yield, yield of per seedling, net pepper yield ratio per m3 water, the ratio of dry weight toward fruit, and fruit number per seeding. The result showed: different soil water irrigation maximums had remarkable influence on pepper seeding. There existed certain differences in the dry weight of root, stem, leaf and the total among treatments at field planting, which reached the highest point in 75-90% treatment, stem diameter, leaf area, seedling photosynthesis rate, root activity . the yield of the first and the second came to the highest point when the irrigation maximum was 90%.Different irrigation maximums also influenced plant significantly at the blooming and fruit-bearing stage. With the growth of plant, the irrigation maximum in which the largest increasing amount of stem diameter can be found rose. The blooming and fruit-bearing rate, the root dry weight, rootactivity, net photosynthesis rate, the early yield, were the highest in the 60-90% treatment. At fruit-growing stage, the root dry weight, root activity, photosynthesis ratio, total yield reached the highest point at 90% or 95% irrigation maximum, the weight of per pepper seedling, came to the highest point at 95% irrigation maximum. With the irrigation maximum increaing, the ratio of dry weight toward fruit, fruit number per seeding, the yield of pepper per m3 water were decreased, the weight of per fruit is enhanced. Water effective utilization ratio came to the highest point at 90%.In sum, 90%, 90%, 90% or 95% irrigation maximums were the most suitful for water-saving and good harvest at the seedling, bloom and fruitgrowing stages, respectively.
