Four hundred and forty seven wheat native varieties were assessed for resistance to stripe rust (Puccinia striiformis West.) in seedling stage by using eight prevalent races (CY19, CY28, CY29, CY30, CY31, CY32, CYSu-XI, CYSu-XIII) and in adult stage by using three prevalent races (CY29, CY31, CY32). The results indicated that 124 varieties were resistant to one or more races and 31 to four or more races. More varieties were found resistant in adult stage.Based on the resistance assessment, the resistance genes in 51 native varieties were postulated by using 26 isolates of stripe rust with different virulences. The result indicated that Yrl exists in 11 varieties and Yr2, Yr6, YrHVII, YrSel, Yr27, Yr7, YrA, YrGaby, YrAlba, YrSD, YrCV, Yr8, Yr19 in 18 varieties respectively. Bailaomangmai was resistant to all the races tested, presumed that it may contain new resistance gene or gene combination. Sixteen varieties may contain unknown genes. Six varieties were susceptable to almost all the races tested and may not have known genes. The result of cluster analysis for resistance was coincident with that of gene postulation, but there was a little differeces because of shortage of data or complicated infection types in some varieties.Genetic analysis was carried out for resistance to stripe rust in the varieties Bailaomangmai, Yuanzicao, Dazicao, Gedacao and Baigeda. The varieties, as the male parent, was crossed respectively with the susceptible cultivar Mingxian 169. The F, progeny was self-fertilized to produce F2 progeny and was backcrossed with Mingxian 169 to produce BC, progeny respectively.According to the resistance phenotypes of the parents, F1, F2 and BC, progeny to the races tested of stripe rust, the resistance of Bailaomangmai to the race CY19 was controlled by the complementary action of two dominant genes and one recessive gene, that to the race CYSu-XI by the complementary action of one domant gene and two recessive genes. The resistance of Yuanzicao to the race CY29 was controlled by the complementary action of two dominant genes. The resistance of Dazicao to the race CY32 was controlled by one recessive gene and that to C Y28 controlled by the complementary action of one dominant gene and one recessive gene. The resistance of Baigeda to the race CY28 was controlled by the repetitive or independent action of one dominant gene and one recessive gene. The resistance of Gedacao to CY32 was controlled by one recessive gene. The results also indicated that the variety Bailaomangmai might have three or more resistance genes, farther research on it should be done in the future.
