In this paper, the ecological distribution area, feature, ecological environment, community constituent, morphological variation and anatomical structure of native centipedegrass are studied through fact-finding, plot trial and experiment in the laboratory. The results show that:(1). The area of distribution of centipedegrass is at the altitude of 60 to 700m hi this investigated field, the pH of soil is from 4.34 to 8.28, the ecology environment type of centipedegrass can be classed three types, namely, flood bed grassland type, open forest grassland type and hill grassland type. The hierarchical structure of community includes trees, shrubs and great grasses .The predominant companion botany of centipedegrass have Masson pine, Bermudagrass, Hemarthria and Zoyiagrass.(2). There is remarkable variation existed in external morphology of centipedegrass, in 15 different populations have define variation , the length of the creeping shoot varies from 50.06 cm to 109.53cm; plant height varies from 9.94cm to 21.78cm, The largest plant density is 8156 per m2; the smallest is 5884 perm2. The back of the leaf in 7th population (Chongqing Xiushan) , 10th population(Nanjing) ,13th population(Chongqing Pengshui) have nap, but the others have no nap. The stem color of 10th population is white, the others are red. Which can explain genetic diversity in germplasm resources of native centipedegras. The native centipedegrass material based on the external morphological index are analyzed by cluster. The third populations (Chongqing Qianjiang) and the llth populations (Chongqing Nanshan) are good breeding material for turfgrass.(3). There are some difference in stomata density, epidermis length, epidermis width, epidermis thickness, cuticle thickness, leaf thickness, layer of the mesophyll thickness and the diameter of the vascular bundle. But there are significant difference in stomata density and layer of the mesophyll thickness among different population; the smallest stomata density is 90.91permm2 , the largest is 171.98 per mm2 ;The smallest layer of the mesophyll thickness is 72.56um; the largest is 126.16um. hi general, the stomata density of the creeping shoot is denser than those of correspond erect shoot. The stomata density of the creeping shoot was between 111.3 per mnfand 171.98 per mm2, the stomata density of the erect shoot was between 90.91permm2 and 146.22permm2, The lower epidermis cell length of the erect shoot varies from2793.75 jam to 123.07um; The lower epidermis cell length of the creeping shoot varies from 76.94 ^m to 99.92um. The lower epidermis cell of the erect shoot is longer than those of correspond creeping shoot. The upper and lower cuticle of the erect shoot is thicker than those of correspond creeping shoot. The indexes of the centipedegrass comparative anatomy are clustered and 15 population centipedegrass are classified into 6 groups based on the difference of stomata density, epidermis length, epidermis width, epidermis thickness, cuticle thickness, leaf thickness, layer of the mesophyll thickness and the diameter of the vascular bundle. The 10th population centipedegrass (Nan Jing) is special among 6 groups. The results of those morphological cluster, the results of those anatomy cluster and geographic distribution almost have the consistence characteristics.
