| Many locusts' calamities have taken place in the history of our country. Inorder to promote the efficiency of eliminating locusts, some characteristics of locusts in egg period and reproductive activity are studied. This work is one of the most important bases of eliminating locusts. Studying the oogenesis of insects has important significance on demonstrating the reproductive mechanism and controlling locusts' fertility. At the same time, it's an important means of studying the forecast of pests and the law of occurrence. It can reveal the law of ovipositing and explain the physiological basis of pests' occurrence, thus design "biorational insecticide". It also can provide theoretical bases about advancing the breeding of beneficial insects. An investigation on ovary of Oxya chinesis(Thunberg) is reported in the present paper. The microstructure of preovulatory oocytes and stages of developing oocytes have been observed by light microscope. The process of the oogenesis can be divided into three periods and eight stages. The former includes differentiation period, growth period and yolk formation period.Histochemical staining indicates that the RNA and DNA of the oocyte are active in the first three stages, then the activity weakens gradually. The activity of RNA and DNA of follicular cells are especially active during yolk formation period. So it is considered that some material which is synthesized and secreted by follicular cells joins the formation of livetin. The vitellin material of the oocyte is a kind of glucolipoid compound protein. Carbohydrates can provide energy; Lipids can provide not only energy, but also phosphoslipid which forms the new cell's membrane; Most of the proteins are livetins, which consist of endogenous livetin and exogenous livetin. Carbohydrates , lipids and proteins have the similar law of appearance. Firstly they appear at the edge of the oocyte, then go into the inner part. Mitochondrias are mainly used to provide energy during the oogenesis.Studies on ultrastructure indicate that the follicular cells have the function to filter the extraneous substances, and they can also synthesize some vitellin materials toprovide nourishment which is needed by the development of the oocytc. There arc many resources to form yolk sphere. Ring layer structures are observed and their probable functions are discussed.Spermatheca which stores sperms exists in the female body of Oxya chinesis. Sperms can live 2-3 months in it. In order to study the mechanism of living sperms in the spermatheca, the structure of the spermatheca is investigated by light microscope and electron microscope respectfully. The results show that the spermatheca consists of six layers. From outer to inner, they are: peritoneal membrane, muscular layer, connective tissue, ground membrane, epithelial layer and inner membrane. The secrection of the pyramidal secretory cells is ejected into the spermathecal cavity through secretory canals. The preliminary histochemical stainings shows that the secretion is a kind of glycoprotein and probably plays an important role in storing sperms. |
