The genetic variation and combining ability effects of eleven characters related to yield, tuber shape and quality were studied in a diallel cross scheme, in which 12 crosses were made with three 4x-2x tetraploid clones from S. Phureja-S. tuberosum and a superior clone from Solanum tuberosum selected as parents. The results of the genetic analysis indicated that the genetic variation of 10 characters other than tuber number per plant were dominated mainly by gene additive effects, while tuber number per plant by gene non-addition effects. The combining ability analysis suggested that the GCA effects of the same character were different greatly among parents and the same to SCA effects of the same character as well. At the same time, there were veiy significant effects of ret.iprocal cross for tuber per plant, mean tuber weight and special gravity Student: Sheng Wanmin, Crop genetics and breeding Advisor: Professor Wang Fengyi...
