As an important branch of agricultural machineries, the seeding machines have gotten a rapid development during the past several years. New mechanisms, new materials and new results are constantly emerging which make great contributions to the improved performance and increased durability of seeding machines. With the development of economy, the agricultural production shows a great desire for intelligent and amount-controllable sowing methods, whose base is the independent electric control of every single row. However, the large number of seed metering devices and their independent electric control leads to a high power consumption, which has become the main bottleneck of seeding machine development. Thus, how to reduce resistance and power consumption, decrease the battery capacity and increase the mileage of seeding machines has become an urgent problem to be solved.This paper aims at studying on the resistance and power consumption reducing method of outer groove wheel type seed metering device to reduce motor power consumption, what expected is to increase the mileage of battery. The main contents of this paper are summarized as follows:(1) Analyzing current research status on all kinds of mechanical and power-driven seeders at home and abroad and designing the concrete structure of seed-metering devices according to the technology roadmap of new type power-driven external force feed put forward in this paper. Working length is adjusted by the blocking wheel and rotation rate control is realized by governors, while cleaning brush type is determined for the seed-clearing component. Respectively analyzing force conditions of external force feed at different stages of filling, cleaning and protecting seeds. Selecting the appropriate kind of electrical components, designing circuit diagrams and sketching the working process of seed metering devices.(2) Theoretically analyzing resistance acting on the seed metering device and obtaining the cleaning brush specific working situation of equivalent force and moment through mathematical modeling. At the same time, analyzing the moving process and interaction mechanism of seed drive layer and indentifying the correlativity between drive layer speed and outer geneva rotation rate. Establishing equivalent boundary treatment of circular arc and according to which the force analysis can be done. Putting forward optimization method of every motion parameter and structure parameter aiming at minimizing the resistance acting on the external force feed.(3) According to the sowing quantities asked by agronomic requirements, indentifying motor rotation rates and cleaning brush interference degrees as experimental factors and optimizing relation of design parameters and consumption on condition of best gap between geneva and seed box. Obtaining best match of motor rotation rates and cleaning brush interference degrees and getting the average result of 21.15% compared with the power consumption data of electric seed metering devices before optimization experiment;(4) In order to validate effectiveness of the optimization experiment and the overall structure design, mounting this designed device on the 2BFGS-12 type rotary tillage seeding machine produced by Nanjing Woyang Machinery Technology Co., Ltd. to carry out field experiments. On condition of four kinds seed quantity:10/15/20/25 kg/acre, The stability variability coefficient of sowing quantity, The seed damage rate and the variation coefficient of seeding uniformity under best power consumption working condition are all qualified comparing with both the national standards and the agronomic requirements. Currently, this kind of design has been mounted on series rotary tillage seeding products produced by Nanjing Woyang Machinery Technology Co., Ltd. and has passed the production performance evaluation, at which stage the devices are applying to small lot manufacture.
