As the basement of the final drive,differential and axle the Drive Axle Housing is one of the more complex components in geometry shape and loaded . The Drive Axle is one of the major components of motor vehicles of carrying some loads , such as: the Vertical force between the road and frame or the loaded body (including the force of the spring loaded and the supporting force form the wheel),the Longitudinal force (including the driving and the braking force) , and the lateral force (including the lateral force result from the turning,the Sideslip of the vehicle and the slope of a road) and the torque .Drive axle housing is the mainly carrying and passing components of the vehicle. Its strength and stiffness, directly affect safety and reliability of the entire vehicle, so the axle should have sufficient strength and stiffness. Therefore, the rational design of drive axle housing, to make it has sufficient strength, rigidity, in order to improve vehicle safety and reliability of driving, is an important research in vehicle design aspect.In this paper, on the base of the automobile theory and FEM design theory, combined the CAD software UG and the finite element software UG NX and NX.Nastran to complete the whole process from the creating of three-dimensional geometric modeling to the analysis of the finite element .In order to create the load and the constraints conveniently, the reasonably MPC should be set up. Through the static analysis and the modal analysis of Axle Drive , we can obtained the distribution of stress and strain results of the Axle Drive in three different typical working conditions and the natural frequency and vibration mode.In addition, this paper summarizes the use of these software modeling and analysis of working conditions related to the standardization of steps to achieve the purpose of improving efficiency.The main contents of this paper included as the following:1,To create and simplify three different types of axle geometry model ;2,To divide the axle geometry model with the basic unit 10 node tetrahedron and to finish the finite element model of the drive axle housing;3,Conduct the static analysis and modal analysis on the base of the finite element model of the drive axle housing, and to conclude the distribution of the stress and strain in the drive axle housing ,and the mode and vibration of the axle housing;4,To judge the three different types of axle housing with the standard of strength and stiffness, and find the most reasonable one, and give advice. This paper about the finite element analysis of axle housing apply in various types of the design of axle housing.
