With the rapid development of industrial society and technological progress, new materials, new components and new technology have been developed. For example,the use of high-quality magnetic materials with high permeability coefficient, the appearing of high-performance semiconductive and superconduc-tive diodes, thyristors and so on, the combination of computer technology and numerical calculation methods as well as the flexible applications of power rectifier inverter technology.With the rapid development of power industry, the three indicators of the power system:voltage and reactive power, harmonics have become increasingly demanding, but with the accompanying impact of widespread use of high power load it will lead to harm such as fluctuation and flicker as well as waveform distortion of the mains voltage of the system, and it will seriously affect the safety of the electric equipment and electrical equipment, consequently it will threat the stability and security of the power grid. Therefore, the balance of reactive power is critical to the improving of the quality of the power grid and increasing of the economic efficiency as well as the reliability of power supply of the power grid.The three-phase magnetic valve controlled reactor (abbreviation is three-phase MCR) based on the principle of magnetic saturation of Magnetic Amplifier, can control and change the reactance value of AC windings with the control of the saturation level of core by the role of DC excitation according to the change of the power system parameters, so that it can accommodate the capacity of its own smoothly.The obvious advantages, wide range of voltage, high reliability, small harmonic content, flexibility control, fast response, low cost, simple operation and maintenance, that make it the ideal equipment of voltage regulation and reactive power compensation of the power system.The merits of Three_phase MCR make the range of its applications wide, so it has great potential in application on restricting frequency over-voltage, operating over-voltage, compensation circuit capacitive reactive power, suppressing the arc current, eliminating the self-excitation magnetism of the generator, increasing the output of the line as well as the long-term benefit.The three-phase MCR studied in this paper is an important electrical and magnetic physical devices, its working status and performance are determined by the electromagnetic field and other physical fields. As an electromagnetic finite element analysis software, Ansoft Maxwell 3D can analyze the flux density of the core, the strength of the magnetic field, the energy, the stress, the winding current and so on. At the same time, it can intuitively provide the image of the power-line distribution, the image of vector distribution of magnetic field lines, the image of contour cloud, so it can provide reliable basis for the design and optimization of the MCR. The numerical simulation method that replaces the expensive traditional methods of sample testing has obvious advantages on design cycle and economic benefits.
