With the continuous development of modern manufacturing systems, the diversified advanced manufacturing technology has been widely applied. The mental work as the main work means relates to the company operational efficiency and competitiveness. Therefore, it is significant to study the mental workload in modern manufacturing systems combined with human factors theory. In this thesis, the operators of the modern manufacturing system were as objects of study, analyzed the affecting factors of mental workload, and evaluated the operators'mental workload levels by the subjective evaluation method and physiological evaluation method. The improvement measures and proposals were put forward to improve the level of operators'mental workload and increase work efficiency and safety from three aspects of the human, machine and environment, combined with human factors theory.Through research, come to the following conclusions:(1) The levels of mental workload were subjectively evaluated by NASA-TLX rating scale in three phases including the parts diagram analysis phase, and the programming coordinate system and feed path. The results showed that the levels of mental workload in process analysis phase were 15% more than the other stages. What's more, the levels of mental workload were negative correlative with work experience. Longer the years are, lower the relative low levels of mental workload are, the contrary is high;(2) The levels of operators'mental workload were objectively evaluated by the alpha waves, beta waves, theta waves of brain waves under the undisturbed state, the normal state of production processes and the abnormal state of production processes The results showed that the activities of the operators'different brain regions had large difference under different states. Under the abnormal state, the operators'pressure was increased, the mind was nervous and the levels of mental workload were higher, so they were prone to mental fatigue.(3) Based on the evaluation results, combined with human factors theory, the improvement measures and proposals were put forward from the human, machine and environmental. The mental workload levels of manufacturing system operators were analyzed and evaluated, and the corresponding improvement measures and recommendations were put forward in the thesis. It has referenced value on the future related research.
