With the rapid development of social economy, the amount of automobile in metropolitan area has greatly increased, causing severe problems of urban static state traffic. How to resolve the difficulty of parking has become a public concern. Yet using mechanical three-dimensional garages that covers smaller area and has higher parking density has come to consensus. In this paper, several different types of steel-structured three-dimensional garages are discussed, their mechanical properties and economical efficiency are compared and analyzed. The main contents are as follows:Because China does not have any complete three-dimensional garage design criterion yet, this paper incorperates related building criterions and parking garage criterions, and brings forword determination of some design princilples and the basic parameters of steel three-dimensional garage, such as storey height, garage load and so on. Under circumstances of determinate parameters of the steel three-dimensional garage, we chose several suitable structure of three-dimensional garage, compared and analyzd their mechanical properties and economical efficiency, identified their respective scopes of application, and finally analyzed a choice with optimal performance in depth.This paper introduced the way of using optimization module ANSYS's, which specificly explained three variables and two different optimization ways in the process of optimization. It used APDL command of the ANSYS to parametric modeling the chosen three-dimensional garage with a optimal form, and then formulated a procedure to optimize the structure design, integrating previously-mentioned principles of design. It cited an example of a project, proved the reliability of the procedure by contrasting the result of the established procedure and that of the common software--Midas.Because steel three-dimensional garage is still in its infancy of development in China, many technologies are not mature. To facilitate the statistics of structure dimensions, this paper firstly unified component dimensional modulus and the form of node connection, and then standardlized connection method of steel component. It found that, different from general civil construction, steel three-dimensional garage has a stronger the load effects of wind than that of the seismic load; therefore the load of wind has become control load. Through the established optimum procedure, the paper added up the dimensions of three-dimensional garage components with changing basic wind pressure and story numbers, which offers references for three-dimensional garage design in the future.
