The study objects of highway network system are highway running states, the level and cost to meet transportation demand, the adaptability between economic and highway network. It is the main theoretical basis to solve the problems that appear in recent years for traffic administration office. As the rapid construction of highway infrastructure, it play an important role in the process of economic development and meet transportation demand, but it also appear some problem in the process of formatting network gradually, such as it can't meet transportation demand efficiently. It made adverse effects to economic and social development. In order to meet the rapid economic development and transportation demand, give full play the power pump role of economic development, we should research the optimization theory of highway network.The research objectives of research paper including improve the exist optimization theory, construct optimization method adapting our highway network. The research methods are the combination theory research and empirical research, the combination qualitative and quantitative method, the combination systematic study and layered study. The train of thought in the study: overview the home and abroad studying, analysis the network features and development history of highway network, meeting transportation demand efficiently as study point, analysis the subjective situation to optimization, grasp the future transportation demand, at the basis of these situations, study the node and line optimization.The paper construct a theoretical system,which context include function orientation to different scale highway, choose the impact factors of transportation demand, road network nodes selecting and hierarchical classification, road line optimization. We use the path analysis and regression analysis in the function location of different scale road, apply mechanism analysis in the choosing demand nodes and impact factors, improve gray cluster and construct comprehensive hierarchical classification model in the node part, construct line optimization model on the basis of cost of construction, transportation cost, land occupation cost and road network efficiency in the line optimization part. At he same time, we should fully consider subjective factors to the optimization to meet needs of economic and social development.
