The urban traffic safety has been a serious problem with the country urbanization process speeding up and the number of vehicle increased rapidly. Lane change which often happens on the urban road has it's characteristics and influences the safety of traffic.Although the traffic accidents caused by lane change account a small percentage of the total accidents, but the delay caused by this kind of accident account one-tenth of the whole delay caused by all kinds of accidents and it has great negative impact to the people's life. Therefore, it is necessary to study on the characteristics of lane change in urban traffic environment. In this paper, the lane-changing behavior and the characteristics of eye movement were analyzed by reading the relevant researches. This paper analysis the condition and the types of the lane-changing behavior, divide three phase of the lane change process:decision-making, implementation and adjustment. First, we get the video and related data of lane-changing behavior through the experiment and divide fixation areas into 7 parts. Then, analyze the characteristics of eye movement of drivers who have different proficiency and lane-changing behaviors in different directions based on the analysis of fixation of the experiment video by premiere software.According to the datum of fixation and relative data when the drivers are controlling the vehicle, we can get time-course graphs of gazing lane, opening the turning signal and speed so as to analyze the behavior of driver control and eye-movement who have different proficiency. The results show that it requires 6 seconds to decision-making the behavior of lane-changing generally. The different proficiency drivers' distinct differences of lane-changing behavior are mainly concentrated in the processes of decision-making, implementation. Skilled drivers can obtain and perceive much more information to make judgments. Otherwise, it is more flexible of driver control for skilled drivers, so as to make the driving more safe and comfortable. When lane change happens in different directions, drivers always obtain information from the objective lane and it is almost symmetrical for eye movement of drivers. At the beginning of implementation of lane change, about 45 percent drivers open the turn signal. The change of speed is a decelerated-accelerated-constant process.
