As China's social and economic development, the transportation of vulnerable groups has become the subject of the environment construction at all levels of city governments. Due to historical debts, the vast majority of China's urban public transport and environmental construction and design do not take into account the transport accessibility of vulnerable groups. Based on this, this dissertation focus on the public transport environment which is closely related to the vulnerable groups, studies the urban public transport environment from the point of view of barrier-free design. From the basic content of the starting barrier-free environment, the author firstly divided the public transportation environment into two parts, the inner environment of vehicles and the waiting area. The former belongs to the internal environment of public transport behavior, while the latter belongs to the external environment of public transport behavior.The paper concludes six chapters. Chapter one mainly expounds the research meaning and purposes, and then points out the background and status of basic socio-economic needs of public transport barrier-free design, also the core concept and definition is clarified. Chapter two briefly appraises the researches and practices of predecessors. Chapter three summarizes the basic principles and factors of barrier-free design, discusses the inner environment barrier-free design from the perspective of the internal structure of buses. Chapter four concludes the widespread problems of external environment for China's urban public transportation, dissertates the main contents of barrier-free design from the physical environment, information facilities and guides system for the Blind. Chapter five conducts a systematic summary and brings forward the future prospects.
