Landscape identification is a factor that helps people understand the landscape environment and successfully accomplish activities in the landscape through means of information transmission. The establishment of landscape identification system polishes the identification system of national public environment and plays a significant role in enhancing the image and cultural connotation of landscape even in enhancing the images of cities and countries.Through collecting and looking up documents, field survey and photograph, this study analyzes and summarizes the concept, types, functions etc relevant basic knowledge of landscape identification, and researches the layout, design and setting-up in the establishment of landscape identification, thus presents a reasonable theory of establishing landscape identification system which perfects the theoretical system of landscape research. It also applies landscape identification system in specific green in order to achieve the combination of theory and practice.This paper summarizes the types of landscape identification. According to field investigation and comprehensive analysis of previous research results, it presents that landscape identification can be classified into oriented identification, indicative identification, warning restrictive identification, tour-leading identification based on different types of information transmission.This paper analyzes and summarizes the characteristics of landscape identification system in Fuzhou based on investingation on landscape identification. The advantages are as follows:①The use of color gives consideration to both the relationship with style and its role as sign language;②Indication is the major function of landscape identification followed by warning limit and guidance which can better meet the demand;③Dimensions of landscape identification are appropriate. Main problems are as follows:①Lack of applying sign graphics and lighting;②Monotonous forms and lack of designing sense;③Lack of consideration of its relationship with environment when selecting material;④The landscape identification system lacks uniformity;⑤Improper setting-up;⑥Ignore internationalization;⑦lack of maintenance;⑧lack of consideration for vulnerable groups.This paper analyzes and summarizes the theory of establishing landscape identification system in respect of its performance elements, recognizability, shape, setting-up, and relationship with landscape environment, and the consideration for vulnerable groups. The design of landscape identification should not only meet the demand of recognizability, but also consider esthetics from the aspects of performance, style etc, as well as coordination with landscape environment, and spread of landscape culture and artistic conception. The planning and design of landscape is also to build a humane, functional, sustainable system in consideration for the tourists'demand with a servant attitude.This paper presents the implementing procedure and relevant content of landscape identification system. First of all, we should plan the system based on the investigation of landscape environment and culture etc factors, in accordance with planning principles such as harmonization, humanity, seeking truth from facts, personality characteristics, according to the overall planning and design scheme. Then conduct conceptual and individual design of identification according to the planning scheme.This paper aims at the current situation and planning development of "Big West Lake" scenic areas, combines theory and practice, presents the planning and design outline of its identification system as well as the specific design scheme.The research of this project plays a significant guiding role in polishing identification system of provincial public environment, enhancing the image and cultural connotation of landscape, and the image of the city.
