In this paper, both traditional Genetic Algorithm and its improved algorithm in fault restoration of distribution network are researched. The mathematical model of Pareto multi-objective have been made according to the fault restoration of distribution network and characteristics of its operation. The objective function include minimization of real loss, voltage deviation from nominal, the amount of load restored and numbers of switches changing. Applying the improved niche algorithm optimize the problem, obtained the Pareto optimal solution set. The significant improvements have been made for the slow calculation speed and the shortcomings of local optimum, compensated the deficiencies of the traditional genetic algorithm and improved its convergence. The restoration result shows that the modified algorithm is efficiency and feasibility. The restoration results show this method applicability and feasibility.
