Supported by Hebei Natural Science Foundation, The overvoltage on tower and surge impedance is analyzed on numerical electromagnetic method when the transmission line is struck by lightning and the circuit model of the tower is researched in this paper. The main contributions are as follows: The search methods of surge impedance are generalized in the areas of theoretical analysis, numerical simulation and experimental measurements. Multiport model of the transmission tower is established based on the theory of vector fitting and ( p + q)-port act gyrator. The impedance functions are approximated by the Vector Fitting. The circuit model of the impedance functions is established by the network synthesis. With this model the lightning surge performance of a transmission tower can be analyzed more accurately by PSPICE or other methods.
