The industry of automobile is in a developing status in our country. The friction material is required of better property for adapting high speed, load cosiness and circumstance. So, it is important for steering safely and protecting the life of human to investigate the friction material and friction mechanism. During braking, friction occurs between friction material and friction tray and a friction stratum can be created on the interface between them. The friction performance is mostly decided by the friction stratum (figure 1[1]). The configuration of the friction stratum is a bridge that links the composing of friction material with the relation of friction performance. We must study the structure of the friction stratum (rising and destroying), the role of the friction stratum and the friction chemistry. In this paper, following the method which was first developed by Professor Y. Lu, we mainly research on the function and the rising and destroying mechanism of the friction stratum from physics movement of the wear particles by mathematical method. Four basic models of movement of the wear particles are set up and some analysis and computation for the models are also performed. Especially for the cellular automata (CA for short) model, a more intensive investigation is given. One two-dimensional CA model and one three-dimensional CA model with variable time steps are developed and they can play a good simulation for movement of the wear particles.
