As human enters the pace of international age, and with the development of people's living standard, the development of social civilization, the demands for protection of disabled persons and care for persons with disabilities increases.The population of five types of disabilities in current China is 82.96 has reached 6.34% of country's total population..24.12 people with physical disabilities occupies the first place compared with various types of disabilities. As the proportion and population of physically disabled persons increase, more demands for walkers are needed. Walker, a tool and equipment, which can assist the lower limb dysfunction of disabled persons and the elderly standing and walking. Supporting body weight and maintaining body balance are main use of it, and it plays an important role in the lives of physically disabled persons. Walker device mainly consists of three categories, non-dynamic walkers, functional electrical stimulation walkers and power walkers, each of which applies to different users. Given the functional electrical stimulation and the cost of dynamic walkers is relatively high, it is unable to be universal used at this stage, for technology research and product development of a systematic design has yet to be developed. Although the non-dynamic walkers used more widely, there are many problems exists, such as monotone colors, materials, unreasonable, low levels of product quality, safety is not high, the lack of humane care and so on, which can not fully meet the needs of the users and dose not take the user requirements and the spirit of the aesthetic experience into account, therefore,there is still a great design space in the development. By making research on the walkers design of the status quo and use of population characteristics in this paper, new demands to the design of the walkers are raised.The author makes a detailed survey and research to the disabled walkers through access to literature at home and abroad and fieldwork and other research methods. This introductory section describes the research background and significance of this paper, the contents and methods. The second chapter mainly researches on the design of walker's current status. First, it introduces walkers available in the market, learns about the classification of walkers and analyzes its advantages and disadvantages. Then, it makes an analysis of several aspects, mainly from walkers shape, color, function, structure, materials to and proposes security issues on the design of walker for disabled persons. Finally it points out the importance of walkers. The third chapter describes the characteristics of lower limb dysfunction and walker design. First, it analyzes of physical and psychological characteristics of the handicapped.Then it analyzes the characteristics of their actions consistent with its characteristics walker design. Finally, as to the walker, it uses the object to make analysis of man-machine size. The forth chapter is the focus of this article. First, it concludes walker's design principles which the handicapped use through the analysis of front part. And then as to the issues in the research, it makes a design position, and raises innovative ideas according to the design position. Finally, it makes the entire design proposal. The fifth chapter makes the conclusion of this paper.
