In bulk power systems,cascading faults initiated by common events often lead to blackouts.For the purpose of researching how the failures spread in power grids,estimating the outage risk and loss of cascading faults and to recognize the key element and the first anticipated fault accident which initiate the cascading faults,a cascading failure model is established from the angle of the power system analysis.The system load conditions, the weather conditions, the hidden failures of the protective relays are considered in this model and it can be used to help designers and operators of power grids to get the critical value of loading rate in relation to risk of cascading failures,key lines, risk indices and the first faults in preselected accidents of a certain operating state.Finally,the application results on the IEEE-RTS system and IEEE-57 bus system validate the effectiveness of the proposed method.
