The theory and practice in the Chinese landscape planning and design industry are based on the research of the classical landscaping. Some classic landscaping principle has been applied to the contemporary design field. More and more conventional buildings have been constructed, and conventional styles can be reflected by some contemporary works. Thus, the Chinese classical visual styles have been retained in contemporary urban environment while on the other hand, the increasing problem on the decreasing land and resources is another challenge to the landscape planning and design industry since the visual styles are unable to solve this virtual problem. One of the classic instances is how to deal with the piedmont parcel in the landscape planning and design phase. No matter in the urban-scaled planning project or small landscaping project, the land planner's attitude towards the instance determines the trend of the relation between the site users and the site itself, unified or conflicted. Basing on the instance of Jichang Garden and focusing the spatial layout of its piedmont environment to extract the pivotal concept of landscaping for piedmont is the major context of this article. Meanwhile, besides the site exploration and viewport-based analysis, the application of Digital Terrain Modeling (DTM) is another method in order to perform the data-based analysis that can generate rational conclusion. The concept of landscaping for piedmont that is extracted from the research of Jichang Garden determines the significance of this article. More than just a report of research based on the classical garden, it offers several means that refer to the contemporary landscaping issues.
