The safety and reliability of crane electrical control system is very important for crane safety management. The complex interlocking condition, limit and protection of crane inter-agency, makes the wiring in control cabinet multiplex. This brings much inconvenience to crane electrical system for debugging, maintenance and repairing. From the past failures can be seen that once having a failure, the crane will may be shut down immediately, then the professionals search electrical faults one by one from the complex electrical control system. At present, most companies use the traditional inspection and maintenance methods of electrical faults, demanding on-site maintenance staff for high technology and rich experience. Even though, the failure can not be quickly and accurately rule out after the failure. To this end, it is very essential to use an intuitive and convenient visualization technology to make the electrical fault's area, causes and methods of repairing can be visually presented to the technical staff.Currently, PLC conformity is widely used in the field of industrial control. According to general structure and performance characteristics of control system, the faults'type, location and reason of PLC controlling electrical system are analyzed in this paper, using the PLC electrical control system of crane as the background for the study. On the basis of studying traditional and modern fault diagnosis theories, the diagnosis model of crane's electrical failure are established through the fault tree analysis (FAT). By using rich software and hardware resources of PIC; Siemens S7-300 PLC powerful diagnostics capability for software and hardware; PROFIBUS-DP field bus technology with the characteristics of high-speed and two-way digital communication; VB whose programming mechanism based on event-driven and having innovative and convenient tool for visual design, the spot monitoring stations with certain diagnosis and visualization capabilities are established. Intelligent electrical fault diagnosis systems of PLC controlling systems are achieved through fault tree analysis (FTA) as well as expert system (ES) diagnostic methods. The design of fault diagnosis system structure and function are completed:including the programming of knowledge base, inference engine, explanation module and related modules. Finally, to making the electrical fault can be searched, maintained and managed quickly also accurately by on-site operation staff conveniently, visualization technique with VB and PLC controlling systems are combined, achieving real-time monitoring and visualization of electric fault at last. And relying on the completed visualization system, apply it to the portal crane in port.
