With the increase of greenhouse gases which are produced by human activity, the resulting environment problem as global warming is more serious. For this reason, many countries begin to develop the clean energy rapidly. As a kind of efficient clean energy, nuclear power has regained high attention and it will play an important rule in the medium and long-term energy plan of china. By the year 2020, the scale of nuclear power is expected to 70,000 MW from less than 10,000 MW now in China. Therefore carry out research projects on nuclear power plant digital instrument and control system and improve automation level and safety of nuclear power plant has become an important subject.AP1000 is a third-generation nuclear power technology developed by Westinghouse Electric Company, which uses Advanced Passive Pressured Water Reactor. The electric power is 1,250 MWe. It is designed to work for 60 years and the main safety related system uses passive design.Base on the research of AP1000 passive safety related system and digital instrument and control system, this paper emphasizes the control plants and the control characteristics of reactor coolant system. The instrument and control function of pressurizer, reactor coolant pump, reactor coolant piping and other key equipments are discussed in particular. Thus creates the instrument and control system and reactor trip logic requirements of reactor coolant system. Combining with AP1000 Self-reliance Program Supporting Projects, the paper completes the design of reactor coolant system instrument function and control logic and reactor trip logic base on the above research works.
