The development of Chinese religions has lasted for a long time. For example, Buddhism has a history of 2000 years while Taoism has a history of more than 1700 years. Such a long history leads to thick cultural heritages which can be seen from both relative religious beliefs and religious garden buildings. Therefore, the planning and designing of traditional Buddhism and Taoism temples are affected by religious thought. The entrance area to traditional Buddhism and Taoism temples serves as the portal of scenic spot; it is also an important part of the whole zone which naturally isolates the secular and earthly space. When going through and staying in this area, people would feel their spirit clarified or even sublimated. Upon that, how to deal with the planning and designing of such an area would be a crucial step of building a perfect layout and artistic conception of the whole temple. However, in recent years, the fast spreading of commercialized tourism scheme makes more and more constructions of scenic temple spot less concentrated on or even neglect this step. This paper researched following parts:The origin and development of garden buildings in Buddhism and Taoism temples; The impact that Buddhism and Taoism culture have made on the space and the maintaining of artistic conception; The organization and relation of visual images of space, and then to find the internal law within them, at last, deploy such law to practical areas.Through the theoretical researches in chapterâ…¡,â…¢and IV, as well as the analysis of a practical case, several innovations are made in this paper:(1) Entrance area to the scenic spot is not the same as service area. Basic theme and artistic conception should be presented between cities and urban scenic spots.(2) Service facilities must be deployed and properly controlled in entrance area to the scenic spot so that they will not affect the scenery and artistic conception. (3) Diverse characters of entrance areas under diverse spatial types in the scenic spots.(4) Within large entrance areas to the scenic spots, there could be many little entrance areas laid on different levels.
