Research On The Advanced Traveler Information System(ATIS)

The advanced traveler information system (ATIS) is one important part of intelligent transportation system (ITS), and the request and trend of development, construction and management of modern traffic. The traveler information system contains the information acquisition part, the information processing part and the information issued part, which supplies the real-time transportation information to the traveler, the route guidance information, stops information, vehicle positioning information and so on.This paper outlines the composition and the basic function of traveler information system first, and carries on the research by dividing it into three sub-systems, which are the traffic information acquisition subsystem, the algorithm subsystem and the transportation information issue subsystem. The acquisition subsystem divides into the transportation information the static transportation information and the dynamic transportation information, and then analyzes principle of work and respective good and bad points of the different acquisition technology; The transportation data obtained by the acquisition system is oversized, the file layout is not unified, needed to be processed to become the useful information for the travelers, the information algorithm subsystem has studied the principle and the respective applicable scope of each kind of information data processing technology, and studied in the commonly used algorithm to search the Shortest Path in the inducible system; there is various kinds of transportation information issuing methods, so the paper discusses the main transportation information issue way in the issue subsystem part, and gave issued subsystem's structure.This paper analyzes the user requirements of traveler information system, and gives the data flow, the logical framework design and the physical frame design of the transportation information system by the structured analysis.It is necessary to analyze the cost and the benefit of the ATIS system. The paper appraise AITS's performance characteristic as well as the economic benefit bringing to the users from three aspects which are the system technology appraisal, the cost appraisal and the user benefit appraised.
