Fault rate of each part and systems of a wind turbine plays a important role for the availability of the wind turbine. Engineer and administrator in wind energy business in China are lack of experience for wind turbine failure, because the use of wind energy are still in its beginnings stage. In this paper we took a wind farm as a objective of the research to analyze the statistical characteristic of failures of a wind turbine by using running protocols. Based on failure rate of each systems and parts of wind turbines the maintenance strategy was discussed. The vibration measurement are carried out on the gearbox of several typical wind turbine, the fault feature of the gearbox vibration of the tuwind turbine under a pitting fault are analyzed and diagnosis method for on-line condition monitoring of gearbox are discussed.
