Two-way Cartridge Valve which has the features of simple structure, reliable performance, small flow resistance, large oil passing capacity, fast dynamic response and easy integration etc. has become the key components of the power system for material forming equipment especially for heavy hydraulic press. In recent years, with the increased domestic requirements for tonnage, action frequency, and control accuracy of large hydraulic press , predicting the operating performance of the equipment through numerical simulation has become one of the important means for designing heavy hydraulic press. However, this work in our country is still basically relying on some well-known foreign manufacturers. There are many primary research tasks remained to be complished, and one of them is to study the dynamic flow rate characteristics of large diameter two-way cartridge valve. With the main pressure releasing circuit widely used in heavy hydraulic presses as the studying object, the relations of flow rate and press's parameters such as pressure difference, valve opening and velocity, are studied. The simulation data can be obtained relatively faster using a method of transformation of moving solid boundary to velocity boundary. The models of flow rate output and input are formed from the simulation data.Based on above achievements, the MATLAB/Simulink simulation model is established including the motion equation of spool, continue equations of valve ports and pipe and the consideration of the coupling effects between valve spool's moving and the fluid field. The FLUENT+MATLAB/Simulink combining simulation is realized. Through the simulation, the effects of spool control chamber spring stiffness, damping hole diameter and inlet pressure on the Valve characteristics are investigated. The study work is a necessary foundation for simulating cartridge valve controlled hydraulic system of heavy hydraulic presses in engineering.
