End-plate connection is one of the most widely used joint configurations at home and abroad, but it does not have a unified calculation method. In china, there is no clear calculation method of end-plate connections, only to meet the constructional details'requires, resulted that there is no codes to refer to. The purpose of this paper is to provide a simplified method for the designer who designs high strength bolted flush end-plate connections, conduct parametric analysis of the influence factors of flush end-plate connections by using three-dimensional finite element model, study the transmission path of this connection forms, base on the result of analysis the existing models at home and abroad, establish an improved mechanical model and calculation method, provide a reference and a basis for the design of flush end-plate connections.So this paper carried on the following research work.(1) Through the literature search, the calculation method of national standard will be grouped into two categories, Respectively Eurocode (EC3) and the German standards (DIN18800) as the representative. Analyze the mechanical model, transmission path and the calculation method of the two model.(2) Establish the FEA model of end-plate connections by using three dimensional finite element model ANSYS, and the validity of the model has been verified through test. Comparing the results of test and FEA shows that the model which contains a bolt pre-tension and contact analysis can simulate the actual situation well.(3) Parametric analysis of end-plate connections by using validated finite element model, the parametric are end-plate thickness, stiffening ribs thickness, the distance from bolts to the flange and bolts to the web, analyze the influence factors and the load transfer path of flush end-plate connections nodes. (4) Establish an improved mechanical model and calculation method of flush end-plate connections. This calculation method had higher accuracy than both the German standard and the Eurocode, the design results are closer to the actual situation.(5) Show the application of the improved mechanical model and calculation method in practical project through engineering examples. Provide a valuable reference for the steel nodes design of China.
