With the development of urbanization, people conducted a comprehensive transformation on the underground cable such as power grid and telecommunications networks. References about the path and depth of the electric cable underneath become incomplete, which results in the inconvenience for excavation, repairment and fault detection of the cables, while the traditional instruments have the problems such as single mode, low accuracy, low efficiency and etc.In order to figure out the disadvantages of the current detection methods, we have designed a cable path detection system with multimodes by using AVR MCU and FPGA. Based on the principles of electromagnetism, this system is consisted of several coils which are used to obtain the data. Meanwhile, this system has the functions of GPS location and human-computer interaction.In this paper, we firstly set up the fundamental principle and the block diagram of the whole detection system based on the investigation of the practical functions. After that, we showed the realization of all module circuits, the design and simulation results of the controlling software related to both MCU and FPGA. Finally, we gave the debugging results of the whole system.This paper studies made by comprehensive, clear-oriented research project applications, has strong value, can solve various problems met in the project.
