There are more than 86 thousands of reservoirs have been built in China, most of which used earth-rock dam. Because of the low economic level and the immature technology in construction period and other reasons, there are a number of earth-rock dams that have the serious problems such as poor quality, potential dangerous problems and poor engineering management and so on. Earth-rock dam infiltration deformation is the main disease among these problems. According to the statistics of earth-rock dam safety accidents, 37.1 percent of the security issues were caused by infiltration of deformation. Therefore, the research about the behavior of earth-rock dam seepage has great significance in the research field of earth-rock dam. At present, the research methods of earth-rock dam seepage safety behavior are numerical calculation and analysis of measured data. Based on the engineering of the main dam of a reservoir in Hubei, this article researches the earth-rock dam seepage safety behavior with the comprehensive method of measured data analysis in the main and numerical calculation as supplementary.The research content of this paper mainly includes:(1) Based on the finite element theory and seepage theory, using GEO-STUDIO software SEEP / W module to calculate the various critical sections' seepage field of earth-rock dam in the characteristic reservoir water level in Hubei Province;(2) According to the earth-rock dam's seepage safety monitoring data, to draw the measured earth-rock dam seepage line, process lines, correlograms as well as the potential computation;(3) Combining the results of numerical calculation and measured data analysis, to research the seepage behavior of the earth-rock dam and to evaluate its seepage security behavior with the comparative analysis method.This paper makes a systematic research of the earth-rock dam seepage safety behavior through the combined perspective of the numerical calculation and measured data analysis. According to research results, we can see the seepage pattern of the main dam of a reservoir in Hubei Province is normal, but there exists the phenomenon of high pore water pressure in the dam body, and the anti-seepage effect in some parts of the main dam is poor. Based on the above analysis, it can be judged that the dam seepage behavior is somewhat unsafe, so its reinforcement is required.
