The movable side wall box-car has advantages of high efficient mechanized loading and unloading and short running period during the transportation of boxed goods and palletized goods. It has been widely used in the developed countries, such as America and England. However, it was void in China in this field. In order to supply this gap, CSR organized relevant factory to research and develop this type of box-car . The first prototype wagon was trial-manufactured in 2001. Its tare weight was 25.8t, and the design load was 58t. The expert group from MOR conducted technological audit on this prototype wagon and suggested the steel structure should be further optimized to reduce the tareweight and to increase the design load up to 60t.On the basis of comparative analysis, the countermeasures for tareweight loss was proposed including equip with the K2 bogie and HDSA light-duty solid wheel, getting through the partition wall, canceling the longitudinal sill of the roof and reducing the thickness of the area where the value of stress is low, using high intensity corten steel, increasing section dimensions of center sill and side sill etc., to improve the whole loading capacity of the wagon. The steel structure of car body was simulation-aided analyzed with FEA software I-DEAS. After simulation-aided analysis, the proposal to increase the height of the center sill to 800mm was adopted. The inertia force brought about during the transportation of the goods was analyzed in detail in the Article, and the rope lug for fastening the goods was designed based on it. The wooden structure of the roof was optimized.Especially aiming at some problems on the visual appearance, weight and the reliability of the gate lock, some corrective measures were put forward; the brake system was changed with stainless steel pipes, and the fitting position of the brake system was adjusted. With the help of the whole optimized design, the effective volume capacity was enlarged, the tare weight was decreased to 23.9t, and the load capacity was up to 60t. The intensity and the stiffness of the car body comply with the requirements stipulated in TB/T1335-1996 Railway Vehicle-Specification for Evaluation of The Intensity Design and Test Accreditation.
