With the continuous development of electric traction and the increase of speed of trains, the traction power supply system that provide power for electric locomotive is becoming more compexity. Therefore, the reliability and safe operation of traction power supply system has become increasingly important. According to the reliability index of traction substation, we can not only update and operator the equipment more efficiently but also arrange to examine and repaire resonably on maintenance management. So we can rise the reliability and economic effectiveness.In this paper, the reliability analysis method of GO methodology was applied into reliability analysis of traction power supply system and analyzed the calculation of reliability index of main electric connection of traction substation. Firstly, this paper introduces the basic principles of the GO methodology and it makes out the reliability analyzing process of the GO methodology. It explains the basic concept of the GO methodology and presents a quantitive algorithm for calculating the state probabilities of shared signals. Secondly, the basic framework in traction power supply system for railway was proposed. The system was divided into six relatively independent hierarchies according to its function, role, essential degrees and the relationship between factors. Thirdly, the framework in traction substation was put forward. The reliability reseach of traction substation include six aspects that are main electric connection, direct-current power supply, alternating-current power supply, substation integred automation system and the reliability of operater. GO methodology is applied for reliability analysis of simplified dual-power supply system and the calculation of reliability index of main electric connection of traction substation. Finally, in order to improve the reliability of traction substaton , technical methods and the reliability of management measures were proposed based on an analysis of the impact of traction substation reliability factors.
