Arch bridge is one of the oldest types of bridge in the world. The ancients had reached very high attainments in the construction of it. Today, with the progress of science and technology, the application of new materials and new technology, arch bridge has obtained new developments. Thereinto, the incresae of span is remarkable and long-span arch bridge has appeared. However, selection of structural configration of long-span arch bridge is one of essentials in the design.First of all, the thesis describes the development of arch bridge in detail. From history we can gain inspiration, and can acquire abundant experience for design in future. Then, the thesis presents the influencing factors of long-span arch bridge's structural configuration, including the structural behavior, construction methods, co-ordination with the surrounding environment, the bridge aesthetics and so on.The thesis expounds the popular combined arch bridge developed in recent years, and the typies are classified. The thesis analyses the characteristic of each different combined arch bridge and gives some corresponding examples. Finally two typical arch bridge examples-the Guangzhou XinGuang Bridge and the Chongqing Caiyuanba Bridge, are analysed. They are both combined arch with rigid concrete structure and steel arch structure .For the Caiyuanba Bridge, some new conceptions in structural configration are put forward , and the analysis of the structural behavior of it is given.Based on the research of structure configuration for long-span arch bridge, the thesis discusses the development trend of the long-span arch bridge. It indicates that arch bridges will develop in the trend of longer span, the light-weight, more sensitive, and configuration-diversified. Besides, the relationship among structural configuration, construction method and surrounding environment will be taken more consideration.
