As a new measuring instrument, owing to its high throughput and multi-channel advantages, the interference imaging spectroscopy is widely used in measurement, environmental monitor, substance structural research, industrial control, military science. This technology is classified in two species: Temporarily Modulated Interferometer (TMII) and Spatially Modulated Interferometer (SMII). Contrast to TMII, the SMII is more stable, simple and compact. In this research field how to improve spectral resolution and optical throughput are always the focus points. The fundament, configuration and the features of interference imaging spectroscopy are summarized in this paper. Particularly the working principle of the polarization interference imaging spectrometer based on Wollaston Prism is introduced. Experimental system based on Wollaston prisms array was built and imaging spectroscopy experiments are performed with it. One hundred and seven monochromatic pictures and one polychromatic picture have been obtained. Compared with the spectrometer based on single Wollaston prism, the new polarization imaging spectrometer has higher spectral resolution and optical throughput.
