At-grade intersections were restricted by space and times. Intersection bottleneck have become one of the important factor of restricting the entire road traffic system to function efficiency fully. In recent years, the emphasis what traffic engineering has been researched changes to the full use existing path facility gradually. With the low cost, the effective quick transportation organization and the traffic control method solves transportation question, improves the road traffic movement condition. Left-turn vehicles waiting area at signalized intersections is one new left-turn traffic canalization method in our country big city in recent years. Namely establishes the left-turn waiting area in the big intersection, let the left-turn vehicles follow the direct vehicles to enter in the left-turn waiting area during the red period, pass through the intersection quickly as soon as the traffic light turns green. This can save left-turn phase time, achieves the time and the spatial interconvert goal, enhances the intersection's capacity.Firstly, paper proposed idea of left-turn waiting area on the base of left-turn transportation optimization organization and intersection's mixed traffic flow characteristic in home, analyzed the establishment method of left-turn waiting area and the intersection's capacity. Secondly, took vehicles travel route, radius, adulatory theory, green light working time, change interval and so on as the theories foundation. Parameter relation model was built on the base of saturated current, the cycle time loss, the change interval, left-turn waiting area's length. The fourth chapter treats the erroneous zone which exists in the practical application in left-turn waiting area. The advantage and shortcoming of left-turn waiting area were analyzed and researched in detail. Finally summarized the advantage and shortcoming of left-turn waiting area and give some advice should pay attention to in the project. The model of capacity and calculation for left-turn waiting area intersection were established according to the parameter model in the fifth chapter. Took one intersection of Wuhan as an example, the capacity and delay were calculated by investigate dates, has verified the parameter computation model simultaneously also. The result indicates that left-turn waiting area intersection could be improving the capacity and decreasing the vehicle delay in order conditions. The sixth chapter, sum-up the work and the subsequent work need to be accomplished is also conceived.
