Study On Urban Edge Space

This article is mainly talking about urban edge space, with a core of human behavior and demands. It is based on the preliminary study on the relationship between them, through a line of correlation between environment and human behavior, the thesis is in a background on the unique feature of historic culture in Xi' an, focuses on edge space in Xi' an external space, proposes the concept about the edge space of historic city and analyses the relationship between behavior and the edge space of historic city.In the part of theoretical study, from the start of the concept of edge, the article exposes the meaning of edge in city space, uses the theories about Science City and Environment-Behavior study, and establishes theoretical framework.In the part of empirical analysis, the article is based on theoretical framework and analyses the relationship between behavior and the edge space of historic city. The edge space of historic city is the typical urban edge space in Xi' an, which is composed with City Wall architecture, green belt(include the moat) and ring road placed in lateral of City Wall and Shuncheng Xiang in medial of City Wall. The edge space of historic city occupies an important position in city image in Xi'an, which is a famous historical and cultural city in the world. It is mixed with multiple functions like leisure, entertainment, culture, tourism and communication.The article employs the methods, such as investigation in different place and time, data survey, related theories analysis, clears the consistency of edge space and behavior space. Through analyzing behavior forms in all elements of edge space of historic city, the article in order to improve the awareness of urban edge space and achieve the harmony between nature and human, edge and the whole space.Urban edge space is the important physical element, that building the harmonious city. Discussing behavior and urban edge space, it is the aim that strengthening the status and role of edge in city and emphasizing the idea about design for people, building harmonious society and livable city environment.
