On the Electronic-Labeling picking line, picking operation is usually rapid and repeat; pickers endure heavy load, and be tired easily. The design for height of shelves and where various items put have great effect on the work intensity and sorting efficiency. So, there is an urgent demand to investigate the application of ergonomic on the electronic-labeling picking system.In this paper, a cigarette electronic-labeling picking system in distribution center for the study. First of all, outline the structure and principle of the electronic-labeling picking system, and analyze the operation gesture of pickers, taking into account the general cigarette box size and human factors such as measurement data, get the scope of operation and range of vision, using two standards to design and achieve the appropriate workspace.Secondly, analyze the data on a certain day in the cigarette distribution center by EIQ method, and study the frequency of the quantity per item per order, get the characteristics of orders and items. Apply the assemble line balancing theory to the cigarette Electronic-Labeling Picking System. Observe the picking operations and find the characteristics of picking items, suggest that use the times of picking action to quantify the workload, using C++ program to design three algorithms for storage assignment based on workload balancing. On the analysis of the specific data, according to the evaluate model of workload balancing, calculated the balance scores of algorithms.Finally, according to the status of human standing work, the best scope of activity and other factors, assign the reasonable position for items on the shelves. The item has greater shipments and higher frequency should be arranged in the position for the picker to gain more easily.Workspace design and storage assignment in the cigarette electronic-labeling picking system bring them into conformity with the characteristics of human behavior, so that picking operations save time and labor, reduce the degree of tiredness, we can provide a healthy, safe, comfortable working environment for workers. At the same time the research on workload balancing can guide a more reasonable distribution of workload, and the picking efficiency can be greatly improved.
