With the continuous developing of our country economy, the internal equipment manufacture grows up rapidly, more and more large-scale mechanical equipment and the military devices transport on the railroad. But well-hole wagon is applicable for the transport of out-of-gauge and overweight cargos, such as the transformers, generators, rolling mills, reactors, and high-pressure boilers, etc. Developing heavy-duty well-hole wagon is one of the urgent needs of national economy development. A well-hole wagon has the characteristics of low tare weight, high transport capacity, high speed, multi-functional, and easy to assemble and disassemble. Based on many years experience of developing and researching on long-large wagons, this paper presents a series of development and research work of a well-hole wagon with maximum transport capacity of 450t.In the first part of this paper, a brief review of the research status of well-hole wagon both domestically and abroad is first introduced. To contrapose the particularity of 450t well-hole wagon, this paper has reasoningly analysised and computed stability, static strength and rigidity of the whole well-hole wagon, according to its particular characteristics, and the optimization of this model. After analyzing and pinpointing the key issues in the manufacturing technologies and assembling processes of the side load bearing assemble, it presents solutions, which includes the controlling of key processes during manufacturing and assembling, to bring the product quality to the level defined in the design specification.
