The rapid growth of automobile industry keeps advancing the development of automobile electronic techniques, especially ignition techniques, while at the same time aggravating the energy resources shortage and air pollution. As the core of the automobile ignition system, the performance of an ignition coil directly decides the working performance of the ignition system and even power performance of complete vehicle, fuel economy, the quality of exhaust purification, etc. The stricter requirement of energy saving and environment protection brings up new content of the research on ignition coil techniques, promotes the development of the ignition coil production process, and puts forward higher demand to the developing techniques of ignition coils.The extensive use of computers and the development of model-developing tools provides the platform to the mathematical simulation and modeling. Using the simulation development techniques, the shortages of practical tests in traditional automobile ignition coil manufacture are avoided, which will meet the demand of rapid and diverse development and have the advantages such as short period, low cost and high efficiency. Therefore the development of computer simulating model for automobile ignition coils is of great significance.Taking RUV4 automobile ignition coil as the research object, analyzing the physical meanings of the working principle and performance parameters in detail, and combining the working mode and characteristics of ignition coils, this paper has realized the simulation of the ignition process using the circuit parameter models and electromagnetic parameter models, and completed the simulating calculation by the means of setting differential equations according to mathematical analysis.Based on the original circuit models and considering the influence of the ignition module and the diversity parameters of the ignition coils, this paper has built the improved, and then more matured and practical-valuable circuit parameter model. The inputs of the model are material structural parameters and technological parameters: the turns, wire diameters, material and technologic of primary and secondary coils, structural size and material of winding frames and iron-cores, insulation materials, the load of the circuit and the ignition stimulating condition. By the analysis and simulation of the inputs, the static parameters are obtained: the resistance, leakage inductance, mutual inductance and distributed capacitance. And then according to the simulating calculation, the target parameters are obtained, including rise time of primary current, primary clamping voltage, secondary voltage rising rate, secondary peak voltage, hall delay time, spark maintaining time, ignition current, ignition power, power conversion rate, etc.Combining with the development experience and experiment data, this paper has set appropriate testing method, and adopted testing platform to compare the simulation results with actual testing results, which has verified the rationality and practicality of the model. Meanwhile, based on the electromagnetic model, a further study is carried on to research the influence of inputs to the performance of the ignition coils, which has laid a foundation for the further research and development of ignition coils.
