Tunnel engineering has been being one of the key engineerings in the construction of railway in mountain area. Tunnel surrounding rock classification is the basis of stability evaluation and support design, it plays a very important part in tunnel engineering. Especially under the background of western development strategy, the mainly infrastructure, highway and railway, extend gradually to the mountain area associated with the tunnel's size and number expanding and increasing rapidly, some widespreadly with the characteristics of long, large and deep. Therefore, it needs a variety of rapid assessment of rock classification methods to meet the different stages, investigation, design and dynamic construction.Based on other's research results, the paper establishes a certain universal rock classification index system and zoning principles, taking the railway tunnel rock classification as based classification, combining with other various methods to meet the fast rock classification requests and developing user-friendly, convenient and practical operational procedure. Through study, the main results as follows:⑴Though summarizing and analyzing various index systems home and abroad of rock classification, the paper sums up basic impact factors to surrounding rock classification including rock strength, rock mass integrity, discontinuities characters, and corrective factors including groundwater, initial geostress, discontinuities orientation .etc. Combining with the features of tunnel engineering, it proposes the index system with a combination of quatative and quantitative and study the quick methods to obtain the key indexes such as rock strength and rock mass integrity.etc.⑵According to the tunnel subsection in practice home and abroad, the paper sums up the main impact factors to the tunnel subsection including lithology, fault and degree of weathering or unloading, the secondary factors including rock strength, rock mass integrity, discontinuities characters, underground and initial geostress .etc, and according to the different steps of tunnel engineering, establishes the principle and operational procedures respectively to make tunnel subsection intelligently come true.⑶The system uses object-oriented ideas of interactive development, and selects Visual Studio 2005 as platform of application program, SQL Server 2000 as database platform. In accordance with modular development method, the system designs mainly modulars including information input modular, tunnel intelligent subsection modular, tunnel index read modular, tunnel surrounding rock classification modular and results output modular.⑷The application results to the Da Zhushan tunnel show that the tunnel subsection is fine when engineer involved. The evaluation results from each rock classification method have a high consistency, which is able to meet the basic requirements of engineering construction.
